Do I Want My Kid In A School Uniform?

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Wearing school uniforms is sometimes met with wholehearted joy or passionate hate. If it were up to the students, there would be roughly 50% who would wear the uniform and another 50% who would not. This is why it isn’t up to the student. Schools and governing boards will either mandate the school uniform rule or not be concerned about what students wear (within reason of course)

The reasons for selecting school uniforms are, for the most part, pure. Enforcing an equality among students, fostering a sense of belonging to an educational institute, easing the financial burden on parents to keep their kids in the latest fashion trends and enforcing of a serious attitude towards education on the whole. Most elementary and high schools all over the world enforce the wearing of uniforms for practically similar reasons. Education is, after all, universal.

In the United States, public schools do not have strict uniform mandates, but rely on “dress codes” which dictate what cannot be worn, like revealing clothes or clothes with rude slogans or promotion of alcoholic and tobacco brands. Most private schools do, however, enforce the compulsory wearing of uniforms. There is a rise in public schools requiring school uniforms and a study done in 2002 published in the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) stated that the figures were up to 22% for the sale of school uniforms in 2000. According to the study, the most students in uniform reside in the states of California, Florida, Texas, Illinois and New York. The study also went on to publish a list of the top 10 cities with students in uniform.

Studies have also been done to look at the connections between the lack of a compulsory school uniform and school violence. The results have proven that there is a greater inclination towards school violence in students who choose to dress in clothes mimicking gang-related clothing. Other studies have shown that some students who wear expensive clothes can also be the targets for violence and in some cases, murder. Students who go to schools which have a higher violence level are shown to be less inclined to go to school and even resort to truancy to avoid being victimized.

The studies show that enforcing school uniforms have done a lot to bring the levels of school violence down. School uniforms have directly contributed to student discipline and learning. Enforcing a school uniform demonstrates the schools commitment towards discipline. There are a similar number of reasons of people fighting to abolish or prevent the enforcement of school uniforms in schools. Some even stating that school uniforms violate the freedom of expression of the students. The decision is largely subjective and more parent involvement is indeed required in such large decisions.

If you feel strongly about decisions and policies such as the mandating of school uniforms, then the best place to begin is to get involved in the parent associations of your children’s schools.

Dealing With Common Pregnancy Complaints

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Pregnancy is not without its side effects. During pregnancy your body will undergo many hormonal changes. These hormone fluctuations can result in a variety of unpleasant symptoms including: nausea, fatigue, bloating and fluid retention and mood swings.

What’s a pregnant woman to do? Believe it or not, there are many changes you can make to your diet that will help minimize many of the common pregnancy complaints you are having.

Nausea/Morning Sickness - This is one of the more common complaints pregnant women have, particularly during their first trimester. Many women find that sipping on some

fizzy soda water with fresh squeezed lemon often helps reduce nausea. Ginger tea is also another well known remedy for nausea and morning sickness. If you are still not feeling better, an extra 10 to 25 milligrams of vitamin B6 is often just enough to help ease nausea. You can take a supplement or try foods rich in B6 such as lean meats, fish and avocados.

Edema - Most women swell a little during pregnancy. The best thing you can do to ease swelling is drink more water. You may think you are already drinking too much, but in all reality you probably aren’t. Some women find that wearing compression hosiery can also help reduce fluid retention. Some women also find that a little extra calcium/magnesium can help combat fluid retention and bloating.

Fatigue - Exercise is often the best way to get rid of pregnancy induced fatigue. Even if you think you are too tired to work out, you’ll find you feel much better after exercising. Eating six small meals per day will also help energize you. Be sure you also consume foods rich in iron to prevent anemia, a common cause of fatigue
in pregnant women.

Mood Swings - Mood changes are almost inevitable during pregnancy due to rampant hormonal fluctuations. Be sure you get plenty of rest to help combat fatigue that can contribute to mood swings. You might also consider supplementing with essential fatty acids, which may be beneficial for reducing anxiety and depression.

Don’t forget above all else that most of the symptoms of pregnancy are just temporary, and before you know it you will be back to your jubilant, pre pregnancy self!

Designer Inspired Men’s Jewelry

Published by robert under Uncategorized

The jewelry market has always been geared towards women, but times are changing, The range of men’s jewelry has exploded as our culture as a whole has made us more conscious of what we wear and what we look like.

In the past, women were the primary buyers of men’s jewelry but men are now looking for such additions themselves. Male jewelry now includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, navel rings, and many other accessory items in a wide range of styles for every taste and budget.

This boom in men’s jewelry appears to be one with staying power. Designers are creating fashionable men’s jewelry that work with corporate looks as well as more casual styles. The younger generation are taking on fashion “risks” and thus setting new standards for style. Male celebrities are also playing a big part as men have now begun to emulate their celebrity idols. The versatility of designs has emerged as a selling point.

Men’s bracelets now have new, masculine designs made of wood, shell and alternative metals, ranging from gold and platinum to anodized aluminum. Men’s stainless steel jewelry is also popular as it provides a look of strength that is always attractive for men. Other designs from the past are also becoming hip and modern, such as skull jewelry.

Skull jewelry has re-emerged as a popular jewelry item since the release of movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean”. In fact, it is one of the hottest trends in Hollywood today and is developing into a must-have accessory. Even female celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton and Britney Spears have been seen wearing skull jewelry.

If you dare to be different, to be bold, then skull jewelry is the best fashion accessory that you can wear, but it doesn’t have to be too scary, or too devilish. Bikers, for example, have always accepted skull jewelry because of its symbol of power, rebellion and strength. Modern designs are perhaps less harsh, even cute, and have a more widespread acceptance. The presence of skull jewelry for men should remain fashionable for years to come.

Men’s jewelry can be expensive but there is an affordable alternative… designer inspired jewelry. Professional designers examine the trends set by the major designers and create designer inspired jewelry using less expensive materials. They might not use the exact same material as the original but they sure look as if they do.

Designer inspired men’s jewelry is the cost efficient solution to keeping up with the latest trends while effectively managing your budget. Since fashion trends are constantly changing it becomes expensive to update your collection with high priced designer jewelry.

You can have a designer jewelry image for a lot less money if you wear quality designer inspired men’s jewelry instead, AND it will look just as impressive. Even a trained eye will find it difficult to tell the difference. Why pay retail designer prices when affordable inspired jewelry will make the same impression?

Angelina Jolie’s Life Path = (06-04-1975) = (6 + 4 + 1975) = (1985) = (1 + 9 + 8 + 5) = (23) = (2 + 3) = (5).

Engine Families and Development Costs

Published by robert under Uncategorized

So where is money spent in a product’s development? That would be an interesting thing to think about. Let’s see. About 40% of a bike’s development comes in the engine and gearbox part. Another 40% in chassis and the other components account for the remaining 20%. Obviously I am makiing up all the numbers but hey this post is nothing but me thinking aloud. So, back to the issue, it is obvious that there would be a number of complex equations behind these numbers. For example, the engine development is seldom started from grounds up.

9:57 AM 9/29/2007et’s see: The hero Honda Super Splendour uses a 125cc engine developed from the 110cc mill on the Splendour+, derived in turn from the 100cc engine on the Splendour which in turn came from the similar capacity engine on the CD 100, which again was developed from the Honda Super Cub engine, which if you read recent news has now crossed the 50-million mark. That is a phenomenal return on R&D expenditure for Honda. Kinetic Motors on its part, reverse engineered the Splendour engine to get the Challenger mill while a further development of the same gave birth to the Boss 115 engine. And yet they managed to sell only a few truckloads of the machines. That’s a very disappointing return on reverse engineering expenditure.

Back to Hero Honda, the company recently used the Honda Unicorn engine as a base for its Achiever and will also use the same engine as the base for the CBZ upgrade. The other not so successful HHML bikes, i.e. the Ambition, the iconic CBZ and the phenomenal Karisma, all use the same family of engines. Surely, Hero Honda is a very investor friendly company.

An engine family makes good sense for costing purposes too. Going by the numbers, Hero Honda suppliers should be virtually delivering components for free (okay, nearly free) with even their employees uniforms having been amortised long back.
