The 7 Deadly Sins of Tennis

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Tennis can be a tricky sport when you’re just starting out. The following 7 beginner mistakes are what I believe to be the biggest challenges for the novice. Address these issues and you’ll be improving in no time.

1. Not Judging The Ball

It’s very common for a beginner to lack judgment in where the ball is going to go and how fast it’s going to get there and play appropriately. A beginner often thinks the ball is going to be shorter than it actually is. They rush to the ball and consequently hit the ball to hard and are off balance when they get there. They don’t realise that the ball will actually fly deeper.

2. Hitting The Ball Too Hard

Another big challenge for a beginner is how not to hit the ball too hard. They see a ball and swing at it. A beginner is only thinking of connecting with the oncoming ball and they may panic a little. One of the main reasons for hitting too hard is that they don’t have a target. Your arm doesn’t know how much it should swing, if you know the distance then you can get a feel for what force is required.

3. Being too Tight

Being too tight is another challenge. When you start playing tennis you contract too many muscles and you lose that all important feel and can hit the ball too hard and generally get it all wrong. So, how can you become a little more relaxed? A good tip is to rate your tightness 1-5. 5 being very tight and 1 being relaxed and going with the flow.

4. Stopping the Racquet at Contact Point

You must try and learn to complete the follow through of your shots. When you find yourself hitting the ball too hard, a consequence of that is stopping the racquet at the contact point and not completing the follow through leading to an ineffective stroke. When doing this you actually contract many muscles in your arm when you stop the flowing movement forward and you lose control of the ball.

5. How to Play with an Arc

Another big challenge is to hit the ball in an arc rather than a straight line The easiest way to hit the ball is to play in a straight line from the ball to the target on the other side, however we want to get into the habit of playing with an arc. The straight line approach can often have the ball ending up in the net. Then, to avoid going into the net you may well overcompensate and hit it too far resulting in the ball going over the opponent’s baseline. Of course you may get lucky occasionally and the ball can fly over the net and land in the court but it won’t consistently bring results.

6. How to Reach the Ball in Time

Learning how to get to the ball in time is another big challenge. If you get to the ball late then you are still moving and are off balance which will obviously effect your shot. We tend to naturally move to the ball with the minimum speed necessary and get there just in time for the shot but we want to get there quicker so we’re ready and set.

7. Toss the Ball Consistently in the Same Place

It can be very challenging when serving to toss the ball in the right place each time. Sometimes it may go behind, sometimes in front, often too far forward or too high, too low etc. This causes you to lose balance along with the correct technique.

So there we have it, the 7 biggest challenges beginners face. In order to become a more proficient tennis player we need to learn how to overcome these and work on each aspect to make our game stronger.

Hollywood Arm Candy - The Fab Four Handbags On The Stars We Love

Published by robert under Uncategorized

It’s no wonder that we are so enthralled by what actresses, models, and other style icons are wearing. Their job is to look good in front of the camera, and their accessory selections set the bar for our own au courant must-haves. As you thumb through the catalogs and websites of your favorite department stores and boutiques, you’ll find many of the latest trends favored by the fashionably elite Hollywood A-list. And if you find that any of these bags might be out of your pocket range, don’t worry - you can always find high quality designer-inspired versions at specialty handbag websites.

Now without further adieu, the four “It” handbags of Hollywood!

The Prada Gauffre Antik

A tote favored by fashionable celebs like Victoria Beckham, Beyonce, and Ashley Simpson is the lavishly textured Gauffre Antik by Prada. Where the body of the legendary Hermes Birkin is trim and sleek, that of the Gauffre Antik is opulently ruched. This visual feast of a bag offers plenty of room to carry daytime or travel necessities, and its tonal topstitching, double-rolled leatherette handles, and hardware accents make an already gorgeous tote even prettier.

The Yves Saint Larent Muse

Another paparazzi regular is the Muse by Yves Saint Laurent. Frequently photographed aficionados include Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Paris and Nicky Hilton, and Kate Moss. This spacious handbag has a classic styling that is freshened by the golden lock adorning its front, hardware rings and rivets, and impeccably seamed piecework emphasized with chunky stitching.

Balenciaga Boston Bag

Very high on the favorites list of every fashionista is a very hip handbag by Balenciaga - the Boston Bag. This trendy bag creates flattering silhouettes by combining just the right amount of slouch and structure, making it one of the most frequently photographed accessories. The list of public trendsetters recently spotted with it elegantly slung over their stylish shoulders reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s most fashionable, including Cameron Diaz, Anna Kournikova, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The Boston Bag is finished beautifully with tonal topstitching, aged bronze-toned lobster claw hooks, and dual leatherette straps with hardware accents.

The Jimmy Choo Mahala

The Jimmy Choo Mahala has been photographed on the arms of Nicole Kidman, Eva Mendes, Jessica Simpson, and Halle Berry, earning it the title of “Hollywood’s new arm candy.” Designer touches that make this elegantly wearable tote special are the handle-to-base belted strap features at all four corners, and the two front zip horizontal pockets accented with golden brass rivets and studded pull-tabs.

Just as not every celebrity carries every bag, not every bag will be your cup of tea. The trick to making celebrity handbag trends work for you is to identify what function the bag will serve, and then select those that will meet that need while matching up with your own personal brand of style. And for those on a budget, thanks to the affordable designer-inspired handbags at sites like baghaus.com, you won’t need to limit yourself to just one!

Red Carpet Hairstyles Run the Gamut From Serious to Fun

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Here’s a lesson for red carpet wanna be’s - straight hair is out.

Celebrities sport a variety of beautiful hairstyles on the red carpet, but straight is generally not one of them. Although those of us not accustomed to walking down the red carpet keep our straighteners at the ready, celebrities tend to eschew them when heading for a red carpet event.

What are some of the popular hairstyles? Let’s look at a few.

The upsweep. If hair is long, this is a popular style. It can also be a quick and easy style for the busy celebrity. In this style, half the hair is brought up and held back at the top of the head, while the other half is left down, usually with some lightly tousled curls. The top of the hair can be held back with an out-of-sight clip, or it can be held by a bun at the top of the head (again, a loose bun).

Tousled, sexy. For the celebrity with a little more time (and more helpers on the scene for hair and makeup), a very current popular style is the hair down, and tousled. Best for hair that hits just below the shoulders, or a little longer. Curls are set and kept lightly and loosely. This is the very definition of the “sexy kitten” hairstyle we have all come to expect from Angelina Jolie

Tight bun. Some celebrities can get away with a nice tight bun at the back of the head. This is best for women with perfect skin, long necks and beautiful features (Heidi Klum, for example, wore a bun at the Oscars). Sometimes a few stray hairs are kept down, to frame the face, but just as often they’re not.

The light bun. This is a popular style for the celeb who’s trying to look as if she didn’t really try and just came from the gym. But in reality this style takes some time. Hair is usually curled first (or left curly if it’s naturally so) and the bun is brought together lightly and held with invisible clips. There are quite a number of hairs left down, which frame the face and neck and are often wavy or curly. This provides a soft look that goes well with softer red carpet gown colors.

The ponytail. Yes, even the ponytail can be made appropriate for a red carpet event if done right. It requires understated makeup (though usually with a red lip) and hair that’s still “complete” (ie., this is not the same ponytail that went to the gym). The hair is usually straightened before put in the ponytail, or is curled. See Anne Hathaway at the Oscars for an example of this hairstyle.

See there? All of us can emulate red carpet hairstyles if we know what they look like. Try some for yourself.

Disaster Victim Car Donations

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Sometimes people wonder about what is done with a car donation, and some people are hesitant to donate a car that they no longer use. They want to make sure that the car is being used for the right cause. Normally when people donate money it goes directly to fund all the programs and services that the non-profit organizations provides. Some non-profit organizations donate cars to disaster relief, homeless assistance and youth services. When people donate a car, they can usually take advantage of a tax deduction, based on the blue book value of the vehicle. There are non-profit charities that handle all the hassles of selling the car, giving the donor the good feeling of being able to help disaster victims.

A car donation can make a big difference in someone’s life. Many people have suffered from various natural calamities. They suffer financial and emotional loss. The availability of transportation makes things easier for them. A car makes it possible for victims to get back on their feet. At times, vehicles save the lives of people and animals.

There are many organizations that provide food and shelter to disaster victims. There are quite a few car donations charities that also offer help by providing the victims with cars. This enables them to transport them to safer locations. These cars are sent to the disaster site and they facilitate and provide help to many helpless people.

Car donation organizations are intermediaries in the donation procedure. They collect used cars from individuals and donate them to charities. They also help charity institutions that do not have their own fund raising programs, to sell the donated cars. There are a number of car donation organizations that support the needy and underprivileged directly, by collecting and selling old cars or providing them to victims.

Car Donations provides detailed information on Car Donations, Used Car Donations, Charity Car Donations, Car Donation Tax Deduction and more. Car Donations is affiliated with Donate a Used Vehicle.

You Said What? God Bless You, President Bush!

Published by robert under Uncategorized

This is what President Bush said to an Italian journalist:

I thought it was a really good statement, powerful moment when a major political party nominates an African-American man to be their standard bearer. And it’s good for our democracy that that happened. And we also had a major contender being a woman. Obviously Hillary Clinton was a major contender. So I think it’s a good sign for American democracy.

President Bush has taken many a hit during his presidency. His ratings are almost as low as the United States Congress.

He is often criticized for his ineptness in speech such as portrayed every weekday evening on the David Letterman Show.

Jay Leno loves to quip on some ineptness of President Bush, usually questioning his ability to think.

Well, perhaps you have read some of my unkind remarks.

Every once in a while, the President will say something that surprises me. It is nonpartisan and it is patriotic. I have to commend President Bush on the above statement.

We are in a time of great change in America. Our dollar has been left unattended. Its value has dropped like a 10-pound lead sinker. That is one of the main reasons that we are paying more for everything from apples to gasoline.

The American dollar is no longer worshiped worldwide.

Outsiders are investing in gold and more stable currencies.

Those owning our debt are nervous. They are using that resource to buy up American companies and real estate.

Because of our marketing agreements with other countries, we are at a great disadvantage. Our jobs have been shipped overseas. Frankly, our country is broke. Our economy is shakier than a Quaking Ash.

Young couples getting married are in jeopardy.

Debt has conquered thousands of families and continues to march. Some go to food banks and shelters and leave hungry and unclothed.

While all this is going on, Congress could care less. They continue to entitled themselves to our hard earned cash. They continually strip the President from his right to veto such pork barrel projects.

If a congressman want to put a museum in Sickum, Georgia, he does it. Not only that he makes sure his daughter-in-law receives a good salary as the museum director.

So we ARE in a recession which will most likely will become a depression.

President Bush has ordered rebates to taxpayers to help stimulate the economy. This action is exactly what our international critics say is wrong with America. We print too many greenbacks.

I read an article in the local rag that one clergyman has told his parishioners that they should give their rebates to his church so that his agenda can be pursued. Forget about using that money to feed the family, purchase gasoline, or pay off a debt.

Greed hurts!

I was born in the Great Depression. Somehow because of good neighbors and FDR we kept our home and never missed a meal.

Almost everyday, a hobo would come down from the railroad tracks passing all of our neighbors and knock on our back door. Our neighbors would say, “There goes another bum to the Joneses.”

We first invited these hungry, deprived men into the house, but one day, a big black man became very obnoxious, scaring the hell out of we kids. Dad took him out of the house with the poker from the kitchen stove.

After that singular incident, we kept them outside. They were all good men as far as I could see, even the big black man that scared us. He obviously was suffering from mental illness.

Most all of those men of the rode wanted to work for their beans and bread.

Going into another depression does not terrorize me a much as our government being, in general, such an inept institution, and our continual intolerance for each other.

Have you noticed the political cartoons. Obama is usually shown as a stereotype black man from the past as shown in old movies.

Hillary Clinton is shown as a hag.

John McCain is shown as a on-his-last-leg old man.

Comedy is cruel. Cartoonist are cruel.

Sometimes we are cruel.

Because of prejudice against women and blacks, we sometimes don’t listen to what is being said. Some of us will not vote for a presidential candidate who is black or female. That is the sad thing about America.

Despite our holier-than-thou attitudes, American still moves on.

We have overcome much of our past.

I saw Martin Luther King in a Philadelphia hotel long before he gave his “I have a dream” speech.

I thought: There is a man on the move.

Well, he did move us towards tolerance.

The point is that where some of us have been cruel, the President showed in intrinsic kindness.

I praise him for what he said.

It makes me want to climb up my flagpole to give a closer solute to the American Flag.

Flag Day is June 14.
