The Advantages of Learning Spanish

Published by robert under Uncategorized

At present, many possibilities are unlocked if you’re able to speak a language other than your mother tongue. It is normal to commit errors at first but this is all part of learning. There are easy ways of learning Spanish and once you’re already successful at this, you would have expanded your repertoire of languages.

Extensive Use

History informs us that Spain once ruled the second-largest empire for approximately four centuries. In effect, its colonies have adopted the Spanish language and up to these days, have utilized it considerably.

Are you aware that today, Spanish is the second most-spoken language? In effect, including this language into your repertoire qualifies you to comfortably communicate with 320 million people around the globe. Many countries in Latin America and Europe use Spanish as one of their primary languages. These pieces of information demonstrate that thousands of opportunities are opened if you learn to speak Spanish.

Emerging Economic and Political Powerhouse

Though it’s still too early to tell, Latin America may be the next European Union. With the area’s vast natural resources and untapped human resources, you can never underestimate Latin America to the fringes of development. If and when you are inspired to learn to speak Spanish, you are doing yourself a favor.

Another very good motivation to learn to speak Spanish is the fact that it is an official language of a number of powerhouses such as the United Nations, European Union and Union of South American Nations. If you’re not into professional opportunities, then how about the job opportunities you can obtain from these groups?

Cultural Benefits

Shakira, Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz, Pedro Aldomovar, Picasso, El Greco, Salvador Dali, Benicio del Toro, flamenco, paella, Bakalao, and bullfighting, are among the other cultural influences.

Even if these artists have English works, would it not be a different feeling if you are able to sing and dance to their tunes in the lyrics at which they were originally written? How about browsing through the interpretation of the art works in their original language? Would it be more fun to watch the movies of Pedro Aldomovar without relying on subtitles to understand them? Or enjoy Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s books in its original language?

Indeed, something gets lost in translation!

In conclusion, when you do learn to speak Spanish, travel and employment opportunities, medical and creative opportunities, and opportunities for fun and adventure are made available to you. Besides, would it not be to your advantage to learn more about the world you are in rather than just being isolated in your own limited world called the United States (or wherever)?

Go to LearnSpanishReviews and get the Free 3 eBooks MiniCourse to Learn Speak Spanish. You will learn how to speak Spanish in no time at all and get travel, employment and cultural benefits when you do learn to speak Spanish!

How to Buy a Home Theater System at The Absolute Best Price

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Getting the best prices on a quality home theater system is a piece of cake … once you know how. Here’s how to get rock bottom discount prices on brand-name home theater systems.

Home Theater System

A home theater system consists of a television, a receiver, an amplifier, speakers, and can include a DVD player, a video cassette player, and a video game player.

You can purchase a home theater as a single unit, or if you’re picky you can purchase individual components to create your own personalized home theater system.

Compare Home Theater Systems

The first step in buying a home theater system is to think about what you want and how much you want to spend.

Do you want a large screen TV or a medium screen TV? Do you want a tube TV, a plasma TV, or an LCD TV? Do you want a stereo audio system or a surround sound system? Do you want all the bells and whistles or do you want a simple home theater system?

Once you have an idea of what you want, you need to take a look at what’s available.

Take a trip to your local discount store or electronics store and check out the home theater systems that fall within your price range. Turn on the TVs and try out the controls. Test the speakers systems. Try out the DVD players and video game players, then find a knowledgeable sales person and get their opinion on which models they recommend.

After you decide which components and which models you want, the next step is to go online and see what’s available.

Comparison Shop for Home Theater Systems

There are a number of online websites that compare prices on everything under the sun. Not only do these sites give you a price comparison, they also give you product specifications, product reviews, and a whole host of information you need to make an intelligent buying decision.

The website I use displays the price from low to high on specific products so I can see which online and offline store has the best deal. You can even plug in you zip code to and get shipping costs.

If I’m not familiar with a particular store, I can view comments from people who have dealt with that store to see if it’s reputable and will give me good service.

I can also get expert reviews, and more importantly, consumer reviews so I can see what people who actually use the product think of it.

When I’m done researching a product and have found the best price, the cheapest shipping cost, and a reputable retailer, I make my purchase online using my credit card. All of the sites listed on the website I use have a credit card encryption system so I know I won’t have any problems with someone stealing my credit card information.

Shopping this way I’ve saved hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on everything from stereos to big-screen TVs.

Bottom Line

If you want to find a brand-name home theater system at the best possible price, through a dealer who will give you great service, click on the link listed below and try out the comparison service I use. You’ll be glad you did.

Moto GP - Valentino Rossi Wins the Czech Grand Prix

Published by robert under Uncategorized

The Italian Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi took the victory at the latest Moto GP Grand Prix in the Czech Republic after defeating Ducati rider Casey Stoner despite the Australian’s good performance leading the competition. Toni Elías who is also a Ducati rider arrived in second place after a sensational race.

With this achievement Rossi adds twenty-five extra points to his name and now is fifty points away from the Australian Stoner while there are only six races remaining to finish the championship.

Other two strong rivals are the Spaniards; Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) and Dani Pedrosa (Honda) who did not have a very impressive race and finished in tenth and fifteenth position respectively. Unfortunately for Pedrosa he is no more a candidate to win this year’s title. Another unexpected finish was that of Andrea Dovizioso (Honda) who finished in ninth place.

The Czech Grand Prix was considered a new chapter in the fight both riders Stoner and Rossi put up at Laguna Seca a few weeks ago. During the exit in pole position Stoner quickly took advantage over Rossi who led a small group behind him, among them were John Hopkins (Kawasaki) and, after him, Anthony West (Kawasaki), Chris Vermeulen (Suzuki) and Pedrosa.

In the third lap Elías reached the eighth position while Pedrosa began to fade behind to the ninth place and in the following lap Stoner just could not keep up the paste and also felt behind the group situation that favored Rossi was able to lead with a seven second of advantage.

By the fifth lap Pedrosa had already lost enough positions and was in thirteenth place. The peak of the competition was reached only within seconds after when Stoner completely lost control of his motorcycle falling to the ground. Despite his actions to continue racing and setting his motorcycle on track, he became aware that the right part of the handlebars was broken and he had to withdraw. Rossi was then advised by his teammates that Stoner was no longer behind him and he had the track completely for himself.

For the remaining part of the race the rider Toni Elías showed an impressive display of speed reaching the second place and keeping it until the very end of the race; this was without a doubt an unforgettable weekend for the young rider. Meanwhile, Randy de Puniet also faced mechanical problems and finished last.

Currently, the Italian Valentino Rossi leads the Moto GP World Championship with a total of 237 points followed by the defending champion, the Australian racing star Casey Stoner, who is also one of the favorites to win the title. The Spaniard Dani Pedrosa remains third, with 172 points and Jorge Lorenzo is in fourth place with 120 points. Even though the championship is not over yet we can see how the pieces are adjusting as we start to see whom the next world champion may be.

Freeview - TV With No Strings Attached

Published by robert under Uncategorized

In the beginning, television was analog. The system was basic, and dependable most of the time. However, nearly sixty years later, the demand for more channels and better quality has led to the development of digital tv. It allows for more information to be packed into the signal, which increases not only the number of channels, but a better and more stable picture. Over the next few years, many countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom will be shutting down analog broadcasts and replacing them with digital. The only problem is that sets made up until a few years ago cannot decipher digital signals. A new television or a compatible converter box will be required to view the new format.

The deadline for the switchover in the UK is 2012. One exciting system to emerge that will improve tv watching no matter what kind of set you have, is Freeview. This is the next-generation of free, over-the-air broadcasting. With the advent of cable and satellite systems, having an aerial on the roof of your house was seen as old-fashioned, almost quaint. But Freeview changes all that. It’s a serious contender with other methods of delivering content to your screen, with around 40 different channels. The cost is ‘free’ as you would expect, but it’s largely funded by the license fee required for all television sets sold in Britain. Most new televisions and digital video recorders have a Freeview receiver built in. If you have an older analog only tv, you can purchase an inexpensive set-top box that pulls in the digital signals and converts them to analog for your set. Set-top boxes were originally being sold for around £50, but you can now get many for less than £20.

You can also get a Personal Video Recorder, or PVR, with Freeview built in. It works much like a VCR, except it records either onto a built-in hard drive, or DVDs. Most feature on-screen menus to allow you to program what you want to record. Unlike recording with videotape, there’s no chance of recording over something previously taped. You can peruse the onscreen menu to see what you’ve already recorded, and there’s no stack of unlabeled VHS tapes everywhere. A 250 gig hard drive will record around 160 hours of shows, which would be a mountain of tapes to wade through. And you can upgrade to larger hard drives over time, if you choose.

After that, the only other expense you may incur is to have your rooftop aerial either re-pointed or replaced. As with the television sets themselves, the antenna may only be capable of pulling in analog signals. TV signals in the UK were originally set up around certain frequencies, with various channels assigned to a particular frequency. This helped to prevent signal bleed from areas of overlap. But with digital signals, this is not required, so analog aerials often have poor reception for digital broadcasts. This shows up on-screen as ‘blocking’, where small blocks of the picture are missing, or delayed. Also the sound will not sync up properly with the image. When this is the case, replacing the aerial is the best option. A properly certified technician can also determine if the aerial should be re-pointed towards a different broadcast tower, to get the best possible signal.

Once you have either a new digital-friendly television or a converter box, and you’ve determined whether or not your current aerial will need to be replaced or not, it’s just a matter of plugging in and you should be all set. There is no monthly bill, no further service charge (other than your license fee, which is payable no matter what method you use to watch tv), nothing more to pay. The major broadcasters in the UK (the BBC, ITV, Channel Four and five) all have multiple channels available through Freeview, plus other providers like Dave, QVC, Virgin and even Sky. Freeview is a low-cost way to enjoy digital television, without having to replace your current set (if you want), or paying another monthly bill. 2012 is fast approaching - what will you be watching?

Interiors (1978) - Woody Allen

Published by robert under Uncategorized

When I first discovered the joys of Woody Allen, ‘Interiors’ came as something of a shock. Where was the man who could effortlessly blend solemn introspection with great belly-laughs? Where was my Woody? I perhaps didn’t feel the revulsion and disdain that some did, but it was definitely one of the dullest things that I had ever witnessed. So imagine my surprise, when on a recent re-viewing I became entranced, enraptured even. How could I have been so wrong all those years ago?

It is in fact something of a masterpiece. Although, masterpiece may be too strong a word for it, as I do still have some reservations. Flawed masterpiece, perhaps. Nevertheless, the first half of the film still drags somewhat, with the dialogue often seeming awkward and self conscious, but perhaps this is deliberate as most of the characters are rather unhappy with their lot.

The film revolves around a wealthy artistic family. The father (E.G. Marshall), unhappy with his emotionally fragile wife (the sublime Geraldine Page), leaves the family home and takes up with the life-embracing, and as such polar opposite of his wife, Pearl (the brilliant Maureen Stapleton). The mother, with a history of emotional problems, is devastated by the separation and struggles to cope with her aging. The eldest daughter, Renata (Diane Keaton), a successful writer, struggles to integrate her success into the context of her life, and her husband, Frederick (Richard Jordan), also a writer, but not a successful one, struggles to deal with his lack of success in light of his wife’s acclaim. The middle daughter, Joey (Mary Beth Hurt), is an artist with neither talent nor an art form. She is full of deep feeling and emotion, but has no way of channelling, her supportive husband, Mike (Sam Waterston), is surprisingly well-balanced and the youngest daughter, Flyn (Kristin Griffith), an aspiring actress, who does her best to hide her unhappiness, self-medicates with cocaine.

The film comes to life in its second half when the characters stop talking and Gordon Willis’s camera starts to talk. The mise-en-scène is bold and adventurous, and far more moving than any dialogue ever could be, with the largely static set-ups appearing to capture the souls of these troubled characters.

One mustn’t underestimate the importance of the Allen/Willis partnership. ‘Interiors’ follows the masterful ‘Annie Hall’, and is followed by the delightful ‘Manhattan’, Allen’s magnum opus ‘Stardust Memories’, the amusing ‘A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy’, the minor masterpiece ‘Zelig’, the inspired ‘Broadway Danny Rose’, and the sublime ‘The Purple Rose of Cairo’. If only the partnership had continued.

How to Get Your Movie Ideas Discovered

Published by robert under Uncategorized

Like many of us, you probably have an idea, or several ideas, for the perfect movie. How many times have you watched a movie and thought that you could have done better? How many times have you imagined movies in your head starring your favorite actors? You probably have a lot of movie ideas running around in your head but you do not know how to put them on paper.

Hollywood has always given the people what they want. When an idea sells, they are more than happy to jump on the bandwagon and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a screenplay or idea that will sell to the general public. But how do you get that idea on paper and across to the general public to see?

There are several ways that you can get your movie ideas discovered. Here are a few:

Write a screenplay

Writing a screenplay takes a lot of work as well as a knowledge of the abbreviations that are used regarding camera angles terms in the world of film making. Before you write a screenplay, you should understand something about film and also understand how to write a screenplay. The average screenplay is 120 pages long and consists mostly of dialogue. It will be up to the director to decide which angles should be shot and how. If you have a lot of ideas running around in your head and are great at dialogue writing as well as versed in film terminology, you should write a screenplay.

After you have written a screenplay, you should have it copyrighted and then proceed to pitch it to producers in the hopes that someone will pick it up as an option. They will sometimes pay money for the rights to the screenplay and the movie will never see the light of day. Or they will hire someone to re-write it. This can be frustrating for anyone who has taken the time to write a screenplay.

Pitch your idea to a producer

This is the best way to get your idea across to a real producer, who will be the person you want to woo when you are trying to get your movie ideas discovered. The trouble with pitching your ideas to a producer is that you have to get a meeting with a producer to enable yourself to do this. It is sometimes easier to get a meeting with the President of the United States than a Hollywood producer. You can pitch your idea to a producer who does independent films, however.

One problem with doing this is that the producer may like your idea…and take it as his own. You have nothing in writing and he can just as easily claim that it is his idea. You are better off to be well established before you go this route.

Post your idea on a movie idea website

If you write down your movie idea on a movie idea website, you can not only save yourself the trouble of writing a full length screenplay, but you have something in writing under common copyright that will protect your idea from theft. The internet has changed the way that producers and other people who make films judge the value of screenplays as well as movie ideas. If you post your idea on a site that allows the public to vote on the quality of the idea, you may very well get your idea discovered by a producer who will be only too glad to negotiate a price for the idea.

If you have ideas in your head for movies, think about posting them on an internet site that you can trust. One that will not only give you feedback on your ideas, but can also catch the eye of a producer who will be interested in buying your idea for a film.
